Homework Timetables

Homework plays an important role in the reinforcing of new skills your child has learnt during the school day.   At St John’s all pupils from Reception through to Upper 5 (Year 11) will be required to carry out homework.

Kindergarten

All children in Kindergarten will be given a reading book, notebook or diary.  This will contain details of reading and/ or homework and when it is to be returned to school.

Reception;
Reading each evening except swimming day, plus worksheets as necessary and weekly sightwords/ spellings.

Lower Kindergarten;
Reading each evening, plus ten minutes spellings, tables and worksheets.

Upper Kindergarten;
Reading each evening, plus fifteen minutes of another subject.

Junior School

All Junior children are required to read to an adult for 20 minutes per night, plus practise their weekly spellings, their Times Tables Rock Stars and EdShed online programmes to enhance their learning.  Alongside this, each year group have additional homework as outlined below;

Form 1 (Year 3) 20 minutes homework plus 20 minutes reading per night

Thursday	English Skills Book
Friday	Mental Arithmetic

 

Lower 2 (Year 4) 30 minutes homework plus 20 minutes reading per night

Tuesday	Maths
Wednesday	English
Thursday	Problem Solving and Research
Friday	Mental Arithmetic

 

Upper 2 (Year 5) 35 minutes homework plus 20 minutes reading per night
Monday	Spellings and Mental Arithmetic corrections | (and research homework for a whole week)
Tuesday	Verbal OR non-verbal reasoning
Wednesday	English Comprehension
Thursday	Maths Sheet
Friday	Mental Arithmetic

 

Lower 3 (Year 6) 40 minutes homework plus 20 minutes reading per night
Monday	Grammar and Mental Arithmetic corrections
Tuesday	Topic Work
Wednesday	Maths sheet
Thursday	Spelling Sentences
Friday	Mental Arithmetic
