Homework plays an important role in the reinforcing of new skills your child has learnt during the school day. At St John’s all pupils from Reception through to Upper 5 (Year 11) will be required to carry out homework.
Kindergarten
All children in Kindergarten will be given a reading book, notebook or diary. This will contain details of reading and/ or homework and when it is to be returned to school.
Reception;
Reading each evening except swimming day, plus worksheets as necessary and weekly sightwords/ spellings.
Lower Kindergarten;
Reading each evening, plus ten minutes spellings, tables and worksheets.
Upper Kindergarten;
Reading each evening, plus fifteen minutes of another subject.
Junior School
All Junior children are required to read to an adult for 20 minutes per night, plus practise their weekly spellings, their Times Tables Rock Stars and EdShed online programmes to enhance their learning. Alongside this, each year group have additional homework as outlined below;
