Careers Advice at St John’s School
We provide relevant and accessible information to all students on the full range of opportunities open to them and to foster an understanding of where such choices may lead. We provide a programme of study and experiences from Upper 3 onward within the curriculum which will enable all students to develop and practice the skills of planning, self-appraisal, decision-making, self-presentation and transition managements.
We help our pupils to gain an understanding of the world of work and the many careers that are possible. We have developed close links with local colleges and school sixth forms. Our pupils have access to an Independent Careers Adviser for advice and support.
From the Trinity Term (Summer) of Lower 5 (Year 10) and into Upper 5 (Year 11) we provide;
- Regular information on Sixth Form Open days
- Advice on applications to college and work
- Careers workshops including advice on preparing personal statements and interview techniques with mock interviews.
- Independent Careers Interview for students about post 16 choices. (Parents invited to accompany their son/daughter). An action plan is written and sent home.
- Apprenticeship information and workshops; we work closely with The AIM Group, who specialise in finding training and employment opportunities for those who want to reach their full potential.

Morrisby
The pupils have access to an online careers profiling website Morrisby, from Upper 4 (Year 9). The students can login to their individual profiles using their school email and the password they have set up. You may wish to look at the analysis the site provides and research the career prospects suggested.
The National Careers Service
The National Careers Service, provides information and advice for education and career development. The website provides information regarding post-16 options. If you explore the website further, you will find information regarding career pathways.
The JobCrowd
Described as the ‘TripAdvisor for jobs’ The JobCrowd lists the Top Companies for Graduates to Work for and The Top Companies for Apprentices to Work for. The ranking is based exclusively on results of feedback from employees at those companies. They collect feedback annually through their survey and publish the results in September.
The AIM Group
The AIM Group work with a range of employers and training providers, and their website provides a plethora of information about opportunities. The website provides apprenticeship support, a CV Builder and a friendly team of dedicated advisors, who are able to help find the perfect opportunity for you.
